The American grid is full. 2,060 gigawatts of new generation and storage sit in the interconnection queue, and the median wait from request to operation now exceeds five years. Transformers and switchgear are up 35 to 274 percent. Homes, factories, and data centers are all standing in the same line, behind the same wall of wires, permits, and disappearing tradespeople.

The one machine every building must buy

Cooling is cognition and productivity. People think and work measurably worse in heat, and the effect compounds across an economy. Lee Kuan Yew saw air-conditioning as necessary to build a nation — it made year-round work possible in Singapore.

Today it is the most important and most complicated thing to build. Heating and cooling is the largest load in most buildings, the equipment is intricate, and the trades needed to install and wire it are scarce and expensive.

Our approach: apply the first-principles design and power electronics of a Tesla to build the most power-dense, self-installing hardware on the market. Apply foundational machine intelligence to optimize each unit and to control fleets of Airforms as building and city grids need them. Both reduce the commercial-grade power systems that are in short supply — and turn heating and cooling from a cost into one of our biggest distributed assets.

The machine

Airform is a mass-manufactured, battery-integrated, liquid-cooling heat pump — 10 kWh of storage inside every node. We made water work at consumer scale, the same bet Google made on data-center liquid cooling, while competitors stayed with regulated, certified-technician-only refrigerants. Charging, expansion, corrosion, freeze: solved with power electronics and software, not trades.

The unit self-installs. No HVAC technician, no dedicated electrician. We have already shown, on real commercial buildings, that this removes the specialized-labor cost that blocks electrification: developers pay us $4,500 a unit and it saves them roughly $10,000 in time and money. Onboard batteries then drop an entire class of commercial electrical work — about $180,000 of switchgear in a mid-size building. Having taken out the HVAC technician, we are now taking on the electrician, and the struggling grid behind them.

Clean re-industrialization

None of this works as an assembly of other people’s catalogs. Airform is vertically manufactured: the cell pack, the hydronic core, the power electronics, the enclosure, the software, and the line that builds them are designed as one discipline, by one team of fifteen engineers and designers out of Tesla, Google, Apple, NASA, Opentrons, Gradient, and SPAN.

Vertical manufacturing is not a cost story — it is a capability story. When you own the whole stack, the factory itself becomes the product, and you can create things that do not exist in any supplier’s catalog: a sealed cycle that engages itself, a battery that deletes switchgear, a heat pump that installs like an appliance. This is what clean re-industrialization actually looks like — not bringing old factories back, but building new ones that make machines the old ones never could.

The fleet

Every unit sold is a node. New York has funded us to replace 100,000 PTACs under a state mandate, with Related — an $80B developer — naming us preferred manufacturer. California is moving 6 million heat pumps by 2030, a $24B hardware market we are piloting ahead of the announcement. Behind them sits $17.3M in open commercial orders, taken before we hired a single salesperson.

Manufacture and deploy 20 million units — $60B of battery-powered heat pumps — by 2030, and the by-product is 100 GWh of federated storage at the point of load: the largest battery fleet in the country, acquired for free, because every battery walked in the door as someone’s comfort.
